EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- My observations from the New Orleans Saints' 16-13 loss to the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium on Sunday:
There are no moral victories in the NFL, but the Saints showed resiliency in defeat. Thanks to a strong defensive effort, they hung in there for four quarters and were actually tied in the final minutes with the ball but couldn't put together enough plays to win it.
Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen prefers to call them takeaways instead of turnovers, and that would be apt description of the three forced fumbles the Saints had in the first half. Each of the takeaways came as the result of a big hit or cagey play by Kenny Vaccaro, Ken Crawley and Michael Mauti. The Saints won the turnover battle 3-0 and still lost.
