The Saints continued to make moves to bolster their suspect defense Sunday, announcing the signing of former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Bobby McCray to a five-year deal and New England Patriots and former LSU cornerback Randall Gay to a five-year, $17.6 million contract.
Gay, 25, is a veteran of two Super Bowls with the Patriots, and the Brusly native said he's accustomed to playing solid man-to-man defense, which was required playing for New England.
"What the Patriots did was we didn't play much (cover) 2 at all," Gay said. "But I'm a person that whatever is called, that's what I play. It doesn't matter if it's 2 or 1. Whatever. If they call it, you have to know how to play it."
The Saints also announced the signing of running back Aaron Stecker.
McCray, 6 feet 6, 262 pounds, was a starter for the Jaguars the past two seasons and is tied for seventh all-time in Jacksonville with the recently departed Marcus Stroud with 22 career sacks. McCray, 26, was a seventh-round pick from t Florida in 2004 and has played in 61 regular-season games the past four seasons.
