New #Saints kicker Brian Johnson was a career 76.1% FG kicker at Virginia Tech, but went 131-131 on PATs.
After last week, as a fan, I will be ecstatic if this guy can make xtra points!Gotta love this "writer" using college's 20-yard extra points as the saving grace for a guy with a very mediocre FG%.
no way this is the best we can do
this is sad
Johnson kicked very well in 2020. He was 100% on over 120 PATs and on kicks within 30 yards. Most of his misses were over 50 yards, but he was 3 of 7 over 50, so that’s not too bad.no way this is the best we can do

Is it really an accomplishment to hit PATs in college? They are only 19 yards away, unlike the pros. Also, inside of 30 should be almost automatic for any kicker. His record over 30 is not good at all in college (66.7%). Maybe they see something in him that makes them feel that is not a huge issue.Johnson kicked very well in 2020. With the Verity inquiry (I really wonder how “injured” he is. I’d bet if the Saints were willing to give up a draft pick to the Ravens he’d suddenly be healthy) and now with the Johnson signing this means Lutz is going to miss significantly more time. I doubt the team feels Johnson is a long term solution (he’s not even on the Bears active roster). He’s just the another possible option. Hopefully he’ll be better than Maher, Rosas, or Parkey. The pickings are pretty slim at this point……Is it really an accomplishment to hit PATs in college? They are only 19 yards away, unlike the pros. U don’t have to give a pick for a PS player. With the Verity inquiry (I really wonder how “injured” he is. Remember Chip Lohmiller? Yes it can be worse. Can it be worse?
NFL extra points are 32 yards, so being perfect from 30 yards suggests he will be good on NFL extra points. I’m going by his his 2020 stats, since he improved a lot in 2020, compared to his other years, so he must’ve changed his technique. I assume he’ll continue to use that new and improved technique. Is it really an accomplishment to hit PATs in college? They are only 19 yards away, unlike the pros.
