The New Orleans Saints have a Rookie of the Year candidate. It's just that their leading contender - wide receiver Marques Colston - came with one of the last picks in the draft while one of the first selections - running back Reggie Bush - has yet to fulfill his potential.
The reversal is perhaps as surprising as the Saints leading the NFC South and the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers spiraling toward playoff elimination heading into their matchup Sunday at Heinz Field.
''The most important thing is we're 6-2. That's No. 1 in my mind,'' Colston said. ''Personal accolades, they can only take you so far.''
Colston, who went to Division I-AA Hofstra and was drafted 252nd overall of 255 players selected, has caught 44 passes for 700 yards and seven touchdowns. He is fourth in the NFL in receiving yardage and is tied with St. Louis' Torry Holt for the league lead in TD receptions.
