Coach Campbell says that Trautman is a "football junkie," and can do it all. He's intelligent, puts his hand in the dirt; throws his body in there to block in the running game, and is elusive and can beat man coverage in the passing game. Says that he's not going to say (just yet) that he's a Kittle or Gronk, but Coach Campbell says that he believes Trautman will eventually be a complete TE in the NFL.

He also talks great about Jared Cook in the last half of the interview! Says that "...there is NOBODY in the league that can cover Jared Cook one-on-one." :9:

I watched a lot of footage of this guy before and after the draft...he is a Jason Witten clone and slightly more athletic. We have ourselves a gem IMO.

Great to hear that he is good as a blocker as well. I am really excited about this pick.

Jared Cook Cook and Adam Trautman at TE, with Michael Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders at wide receiver, along with a developing Deonte Harris also in the mix, and don't forget Alvin Kamara out of the backfield and our outstanding offensive line....we are in for a treat this year.

This legitimately may be the best roster we have ever had, including the 2009 and 2011 seasons.

So basically we have another version of Jimmy Graham who is willing to block. That's scary for opposing defenses.

People keep forgetting to list Taysom Hill. That's how loaded this offense is. One of the most dangerous weapons in football and he's not even mentioned.

This was a good pick for two reasons. One, Payton mentioned during last season that we had to remove a number of plays when Josh Hill was injured because we had no replacement for him. Since Trautman is at least a competent blocker, he should be able to fill in for Hill as needed. Two, since Jared Cook isn't exactly young, nor is he exactly cheap, and his contract is up after this year, if Trautman is worthy of Campbell's hype, he could replace Cook as the starter next year.

The willingness to block is going to get him on the field early and often.

I bet he'll also beast on special teams too.

Agreed. I enjoy reading stuff like this but I also know he hasn't played a down of NFL football....as always, I'll take the wait and see approach....just a tad early to compare him to Jason Witten (who I think is the best TE to ever play)....

You can make a really good argument that either Gates or Gonzales is the GOAT. But what puts Witten over the top for me is he maybe the best blocking TE of all time. The others are not even close in terms of catches/TD's and yards, I mean some of them have less than half of what Witten had. I know they played in different eras but still, Witten's longevity is another reason I think he is the best. It's also why Gates and Gonzales should be considered the best....

And I'm a Cowboy hater.....

I’m really excited about Adam Trautman as well. I think we may have hit it big again like we did with another 3rd round TE pick in Jimmy Graham. I had him as being right up there as one of the best tight ends in this draft class, so getting him in the 3rd round was great value even though we gave up a ton of later picks to get him. I think he will be the starter here soon as Jared Cook is 33 years old and his game is based off his athleticism. I hope he comes in and beats out Josh Hill for the #2 TE spot and we have us a Philly situation like they have with Zach Ertz & Dallas Goedert this year.
