Saints this years Minnesota Viking? (1 Viewer)

The Saints don't play any of the elite QBS. Cousins and Stafford are the best QBs that they play. Their schedule is pretty weak.
I wouldn't be surprised if they won 11 to 13 games and lose in the first round of the playoffs to Philly or Dallas.
This is my concern now. I think either one of those games could be a nightmare if the Oline does not see vast improvement.

If our offense looks roughly the same throughout the season as it has the first two weeks, it may end up being a valid comp.

Going into this season, my belief for a realistic Saints ceiling (yes, I know a championship is theoretically possible, I'm talking realistic) was "win the division, win a playoff game at home and lose in the 2nd round." Basically, similar to the 2013 season (we didn't win the division there, but SEA was clearly the best team in the conference going into those playoffs, so that was probably the least heartbreaking playoff loss of my lifetime).

So yeah, that's not too far off from what Minnesota was last year (except they lost their first playoff game).
I think me and you where pretty much aligned. At the start of the season I was worried we would get the 4th season and Dallas would be the 5th. I feel like that is a pretty bad match up for us.

I will say that the defense has me a little more excited then I was at the start of the season.

we could beat the cowboys and niners handily, and they still wouldn't put us in the same category. I don't worry too much about what people say any more.

Nah. Our defense is monstrous, while the Vikings had one of the worst defenses in the league last season. We're also going against teams with one hand behind our back. No Kamara and Carr is still getting acclimated. I expect the second half of the season to be very different offensively to what we've seen so far.

Minnesota had to come back and win in almost every game last year, we're not like that so far. We had to come back in Week 1, but not Week 2. If we're winning most games like Week 1 then yes, we're the 22 Vikings, but until then, we're not.

It's still too early to tell, but I can understand why someone might think we could end up being comparable. Of course, no comparison is perfect (MIN had a good offense and a bad defense which was probably why they had to come from behind so much, whereas we'll likely lean on our defense even if our offense finds a rhythm). But I don't think the OP or the podcast they refer to are totally off base for considering the comparison.

I'd say it is off base because it's only Week 3, but that's just me.

So I don't listen to a ton of sport media but I do enjoy Extra Point Taken over at the Ringer's NFL podcast. I like Sheil and Ben, just find them fun to listen to, but I also enjoy football from a more nerd/statistical/analytical point of view.

Today on there Friday show Sheil was predicting the Saints to beat Green Bay. They both like are defense but are little sheepish on the offense. During the segment he said the Saint's will be like the '22 Viking. Beat bad teams, on an easy schedule, but no one will really take us serious. Basically we could end the season with 12+ wins, but no one will put us in the same league as Dallas, 49'ers, Philly.

The more I though about the more I though it might be a fair assessment. It's early and things can change but I can't see us beating Dallas or the 49'ers. While Philly would be closer I still think we're the underdogs.

So what say you Saint's Report, is this teams ceiling a decent record and Division win, only to be one and done in the playoffs? Do you really believe that we can beat the elite teams? I am not there yet but I am starting to feel like this has the potential to be a special season, when you hear these players talk you can tell that they believe they can beat anyone. I really excited about this Sunday's game. If we can get this offense to be just a tad more efficient we might be able shock some people.
What’s the reason we can’t beat an overhyped and overrated Dallas team once we get to that point of the season? Surely you’re not saying they’re elite like the Niners.

If we lost to Dallas it would be due to our OL underperforming as it has dating back to last year. It won’t be because they have elite QB play for sure.

I worry about Dallas and Philly's Dline going against our Oline.
I still need to see what we look like with AK41. I think we will rank 10th -12th in offense with Kamara

I just want to see a steady improvement from them. At times they looked a little better in the Carolina game, but other times they looked really bad.

I think having AK back will help that some because he’s such a weapon underneath as a dump off with MT being a great option as a hot read.

I think we will know about our OL and this season by week 6ish

I'm cautiously optimistic about our Oline. We did run block well and looked better in the second half last week. I'd love it if we can gel by week 6.
