The New Orleans Saints last offseason re-signed two tight ends to multi-year contracts, with each expected to hold defined roles in the team's offense.

In Michael Hoomanawanui, the Saints had a tough-nosed blocker who arrived in a 2015 trade with the New England Patriots. In Josh Hill, the Saints had a versatile pass-catcher whose three years experience with the team and special teams abilities increased his value.

Neither stayed healthy beyond Week 1, with Hill first suffering an ankle injury and later being limited to nine games when the Saints put him on injured reserve due to a broken fibula suffered Dec. 4 against the Detroit Lions.

Hoomanawanui missed the entire season due to a high-ankle sprain that included ligament damage, suffered in the preseason Aug. 26 against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
