Only a few weeks ago, it looked like the NFC South would be a fight between the Saints and Panthers. But with Carolina sinking fast, New Orleans is in control.

It’s not a mathematical impossibility for the Carolina Panthers to climb back into the race for the NFC South. But, for it to happen, the Saints would need to lose out and the Panthers win out. That doesn’t look to be the trajectory for either of these teams after Week 12.

On Thanksgiving night, the Saints effectively beat out the Falcons who are now 4-7 on the season and tied for third place with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Neither of those teams can catch the Saints.

The Panthers sit at 6-5 and have to play the Saints twice. And Carolina is fading fast. Losers of their last three, the once obvious challenger to the Saints in the NFC South are steadily losing steam. The Saints still have to face Carolina twice, Tampa Bay and the Cowboys this Thursday night in Week 13. ...
