A year ago, the New Orleans Saints were preparing for their first NFC Championship Game.
A year later, the Saints are preparing for next season after having missed the playoffs entirely in 2007.
"We had high expectations heading into the season," Saints coach Sean Payton said, "and we'll begin now the process of evaluating not only our own players, but then the upcoming players that will be available in free agency and doing everything possible to improve this team so that we're not sitting in this position at this time next year."
