New Orleans tops NBC's 'Sunday Night Football' metered markets for third consecutive year

For the third consecutive year, and sixth time (2010, 2011 and 2013) in 11 seasons, New Orleans was the top-rated "Sunday Night Football" market.
New Orleans averaged a 20.2 rating and 30 share for "Sunday Night Football" broadcasts this season.

With consistent numbers like these Goodell and the owners should be thanking Sean Payton and the Saints. But sadly it is the other way around.

These seem to be markets, not teams 'cause Albuquerque is in there. So maybe it means NO is likes to stay up Sundays nights and not worry bout going to work Monday morning.

Just so everyone's clear, this article is about local TV market ratings NOT national ratings. The Saints have the have the highest share of viewers in their own local market. Given that New Orleans is one of the smallest TV markets among NFL cities, this doesn't necessarily push the NFL to schedule more Saints' games in prime time (but it doesn't hurt!)

So it's not about the Saints being America's Team but more about the great loyalty and strength of the Who Dat Nation.

That's what I noticed and Milwaukee (which I assume is for Green Bay).

With that being said, it's been noted that a few of the Saints games have been the highest rated for the NFL.

New Orleans watches lots of football, even when we are not great. Los Angeles does not, unless they are winning.

So, if you want to boost viewership, better put the Rams in the Super Bowl again.

so a team with 3 heartbreaking playoff exits in a row still has a higher share of their market than the team that just won the Super Bowl and is expected to be in their 2nd this year.

Sadly this is correct.

A fraction of the market in L.A. is more people and more value to the NFL than the huge chunks of market the Saints draw in Louisiana.

So we have the largest portion of our market watching our games locally but it’s a really small market - so if a tenth of the market in L.A. watches the Rams, it’s more people and more money - just due to the vast size of the market.

That’s why the NFL was so desperate to get a team in L.A. They knew the fan support would be lukewarm but it didn’t matter. They just needed those local numbers to boost the TV contract and ad values.

Also, Louisiana could have 100% of households watching the games abs the league wouldn’t care. Because the real money is in the big markets.
