I usually don’t get caught up in the speculative part of what might be going on with a player and their future with the team, but there are some red flags coming into view with Thomas.
He’s a gifted receiver, but if you look at Payton’s time here, it seems clear to me that he values players who are team-centered and accountable above all else. Once the drama or distractions start up, or the focus shifts too much to the individual in a negative way, those players tend to get moved out. Especially, it seems, at WR and TE.
My guess: If Thomas doesn’t get it together, he is gonna mess around and hold the door wide open for somebody else, even if they don’t have half the talent, and Payton and Loomis will figure out a way to move on and not look back.
