Dang… that Thursday injury report was disheartening, but the show must go on.
The Saints are looking at being down Armstead, Ramcyzk, Kamara, and Hill on offense, as well as some solid depth guys on defense. Montgomery is also out with that pinky.
The fill-ins are Hurst, Jordan Mills/Landon Young, Ingram, and ? (for Hill , his role is unique).
- Hurst has played pretty well and he’s a valuable piece. I think they could be OK at LT.
- Mills is a former starter and a vet. The experience is there for spot-duty. Young is an unproven rookie, but he graded-out really well during preseason action. The loss of Ramcyzk is big, but it’s not a total slam dunk of a dumpster fire.
*To be honest, last week vs the Titans… Hurst had to move to LT and Throckmorton to LG… and both of them played better than RUIZ. Ruiz is still the weak-link even with 2 backups manning the entire left side.*
- Ingram showed he still has the juice to get the job done. I think they could be OK there once again… they’ll need TJJ to help some, or Adams to come up and carry some weight.
- There’s really no “fill-in” for Taysom Hill, his role is just so differentiated from the norm. I will say this though… the Eagles can struggle vs TEs. This could be a game where Juwan Johnson flashes or Trautman actually helps the team overall.
The Eagles have some talent on the front 4 of their defense, and Darius Slay will likely further limit the already struggling passing offense. The Eagles can be run on though, and their pass defense also has some holes. It all depends on if the patchwork OL can hold up.
This could be a big game for a TE or Deonte Harris. They’re going to need Ingram to find some success.
The key to the game (IMO) is the Saints defense, and their ability to contain Jalen Hurts. If the Saints win… it’ll have just about everything to do with the defense and special teams.
Hurts is the key… if he can break contain and scramble for key yards, it’s going to hurt. I’m not sure what the plan will be, but I hope it’s a good one.
Lattimore has to step up and take away Smith. If Latt takes it seriously, he’ll get it done I think.
Saints have to stay strong in run defense. The Eagles are a running team, so force them out of their comfort zone.
This game will be decided in the trenches. The Saints defense has to carry them this week… and the offense just has to score when they have their chances.
