Saints vs. Colts

I would love this, if for no other reason because it was guarantee that we wouldn't have to play there in December. What I think is more likely, though, is that the NFL gives us a Monday night game in Green Bay in mid-December. Seems to have been the trend the last few years, to give us games up north in December.

I hadn't thought about it from this angle, and it's a good point.

We have 3 potential cold weather games, all NFC - @ GB, @ MIN (depends on if they're playing in their dome or at a borrowed outdoor stadium), and @ CAR - if they schedule them in December, and even then, that's not guaranteed to be extremely cold.

I'll stick with my original thought though - I don't want to be GB's opener should they win the SB. If they lose, I'm all for it.

I think for the very reason the Saints would be in the opening game of the season for the 3rd time in 5 years is exactly why we will not be.

The NFL likes to mix things up. An NFCCCG re-match of GB vs Chicago would be highly likely if the Pack wins or a Steelers vs Pats or Ravens if they win the SB.

I still think we play Green Bay Christmas Night at Lambeau.

If the Packers win the Super Bowl (and for the record I think they will) they will open next season against the Saints!!!!!!! The hype leading up that game is too good to pass up.

That would suck. :angryrazz:

I'm not scared of any team, but I don't really care for the prospect of being the opponent of the SB winning team on opening night. Even a very good team like the Saints may not be able to overcome all the hype and energy that will be in Lambeau field, should the Packers open as SB winners - there's a strong possibility of 0-1 there - for any opponent. Just look at the record since 2000 - the SB winning team is a perfect 11-0 on opening night the next season:

Opening Night for SB Winners
2000 - Rams beat Broncos
2001 - Ravens beat Bears
2002 - Pats beat Steelers
2003 - Bucs beat Eagles
2004 - Pats beat Colts (this is when the the Thursday Night opener began)
2005 - Pats beat Raiders
2006 - Steelers beat Dolphins
2007 - :covri:
2008 - Giants beat Redskins
2009 - Steelers beat Titans
2010 -

No thanks. Further, how about a regular 12 noon start to open the season, and hopefully a schedule with a few prime time games, but not all the Thursdays and such. I really do think the schedule took a toll on the Saints, in addtion to the extended season that you have when you go to the SB, in addition to all of the continuous fan fare leading up to the 2010 season.

Yikes!!!

I agree, even if we have a great team next season, it's hard to overcome the hype of a season opener. Plus I am hoping our season opener is at home.

I wouldn't mind us opening against the Texans or something.

It would be fun, though, to be the first team in a decade to knock off the defending Super Bowl champs the day they raise their championship banner.

Ima go out on a limb and predict Saints at Falcons, Sunday night.
