Saints vs. Eagles: Saints are 11-1 with Carl Cheffers at referee (1 Viewer)

The New Orleans Saints have had good luck with NFL referee Carl Cheffers officiating games, and he’s been assigned to their upcoming game against the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round of the 2018 NFL playoffs. He was the referee when New Orleans beat the Eagles 48-7 in their Week 11 meeting, as chance would have it, and the Saints’ all-time record with Cheffers overseeing the action is even better: New Orleans is 11-1 with Cheffers at referee. If you’re feeling superstitious, knock on wood.

Now, sure, that’s neat. But it’s not like Cheffers has acted with outright favoritism to the Saints: in 12 games with the referee, the Saints have committed 89 penalties (7.4 per game), racking up 859 penalty yards (71.6 per game, and 9.6 yards per penalty). Compare that with their opponents, who have been flagged 91 times (7.6 per game) to the tune of 718 yards (just 59.8 per game and only 7.8 yards per penalty).
