METAIRIE, La. (AP) — Linebacker Jonathan Vilma officially began his career as a Saint on Monday as New Orleans tries to upgrade its defense.

Vilma, acquired in a trade from the New York Jets on Feb. 29, is the key player among four defenders acquired in the last month by the Saints, who began their offseason program Monday. The others are linebacker Dan Morgan, end Bobby McCray, and defensive back Randall Gay.

The Saints, coming off a trip to the NFC Championship after the 2006 season, finished a disappointing 7-9 last season. Their offense ranked fourth in the NFL; the defense ranked 26th. Full Story – Picayune
