So where did it go wrong for the New Orleans Saints in 2016? You can argue that every facet of the team played a role in the increasingly familiar losing results.

The Saints defense serves as the typical fall guy in these losing seasons. That's still the case here, but those players and coaches are far from alone in this one.

Special teams played a painful role in the downfall of the 2016 squad. And even though the offense chalked up astronomical numbers again, the group played a part in the team's third consecutive 7-9 record.

Carolina took a step back this past season. Tampa Bay took steps forward. Atlanta leaped to the top team in the NFC South.

The Saints have remained in neutral...
