Paul Tagliabue may have vacated all punishments for the New Orleans Saints players, and Roger Goodell may have reinstated Sean Payton, but the Saints bounty-related problems are still not over.
During an “Ask Me Anything” segment on Reddit.com today, Roger Goodell was asked specifically by one Reddit member if there was “any chance the Saints get back their 2nd round pick” in this upcoming April’s draft. Goodell’s response? “No, the penalty will continue to include the 2nd round draft choice in 2013.”
That news has to be a disappointment to the Saints organization and its fans, who had recently been discussing the possibility that the Saints could conceivably receive their 2nd round pick back outright, or suffer a reduced penalty instead. That possibility now seems to be dead in the water, with the Commissioner answering the Reddit question completely and with no doubt (something he didn’t do for many of the other questions).
We’ll have more on Goodell’s AMA session tomorrow in our Opening Kickoff, but those who wish to read the session now can do so here.
