Agnew is a former All-Pro returner who has speed and some playmaking ability as a converted WR.
Pettis has experience in Kubiak-Shanahan’s system for 3 years with the 49ers. McCutcheon was with the Rams in 2022.

All of these players are bad, Agnew looks like his good years occurred in the 2010s.

At this point really NO should give Juice and Thomas a call
Agnew came into the league in 2017.

1st team All-Pro returner as a rookie. Pro Bowl returner in 2022, two years ago.

Landry and Thomas are closer to retirement, mainly MT in terms of wear and tear. That ship has already sailed after his tweets earlier this year.

I recall that Pettis was a good prospect coming out of Washington but just never emerged for whatever reason. Some of this looks like looking for guys that can handle return duties. Could be that they are looking for other options or just trying to send a message to Shaheed that mistakes won't be tolerated.

Payton used to bring in guys for work outs at a guy's position all the time if he made a mistake in a game.

It looks like they signed Jermaine Jackson to the practice squad today. The Saints gave him a pretty healthy UDFA offer this Spring. He could be the next guy up if they want to carry a return specialist.

Yep. I was kind of surprised that they didn't look for another return specialist when the guy they claimed on waivers from Minnesota failed his physical. It seemed like they intended to either pull Shaheed off of those duties or limit how often he had to be used, but they didn't look for anyone else. Maybe they just liked that guy.

I heard Steve Tasker a while ago say that in his experience, once you're a fulltime starting wide receiver it really takes away from your focus/concentration on return duties. In his opinion, the player becomes so focused on their role in the offensive game plan that the return job becomes secondary.

I'm sure it's not the same for all players but I thought it was an interesting comment from someone with a very good perspective on the subject.

Remember all of the Hunter Renfrow chatter? That dude must have some serious baggage. He hasn't been in for a workout or anything. He's still relatively young and had a great rapport with Carr. Considering the level of WRs we are looking at, it's mind blowing that he didn't even get a tire kick.

Steve was most certainly one of the best ever on special teams.

Many of his peers say he’s the 🐐.

From his wiki page:

He was ranked No. 9 on the NFL Network's NFL Top 10 Players Not in the Hall of Fame.[10]

Many, including former teammate and Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, consider him to be the greatest special teams player of all-time and believe that he should be in the Hall of Fame
