MOBILE, Ala. -- After yet another strong offensive performance, one of the New Orleans Saints' assistant coaches is a candidate for a promotion elsewhere.

Saints wide receivers coach John Morton interviewed with the New York Jets for their vacant offensive coordinator position. ESPN first reported Morton's candidacy, which was later confirmed by NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune.

Morton oversaw one of the top groups of wide receivers in the NFL in 2016, led by Brandin Cooks, Michael Thomas and Willie Snead.

Morton first worked with the Saints in 2006 as the offensive assistant/passing game coach. He then went to USC from 2007-10 and served as the Trojans' offensive coordinator in 2009. After coaching wide receivers for the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-14, he returned to New Orleans in 2015.
