Sanders on Brees arm strength (1 Viewer)

It’s pretty simple with Drew.

Short of an injury, his velocity is fully determined by his lower half.

Feet set, stepping into throws, it’s barely like it ever changed from a decade ago.

Now when the rush is up the middle, and he isn’t able to step into it......some of the younger QBs can still fire bullets, but this is where Drew gets affected and people say “arm strength is declining”.

Give him a pocket and room to step, and it’s an accurate rope.
That makes our Ruiz draft pick all the more sweeter. If Peat (huge if) can stay healthy, our guard-center combo should be very good this year. That’s easily our kryptonite on offense, the Vikings proved that last year.

Papaw can still fling it. Having a "not so great" arm is over-rated. In no way does it damage a good, smart QB. They play a slightly different game, but they can still rack up yards, receptions, and TDs. See Dan Marino and John Unitas.

ye its at the beginning of the season, in 2 months his arm wont be the same strength wise.. he needs to take games off during this season to be fresh at the end

Durkin, meanwhile, was simultaneously working on Brees’ lower body. For eight weeks, he sent Brees through a battery of squats, deadlifts and leg presses to improve his leg and core strength. By the end of the summer, Brees was deadlifting 350 pounds on the hex bar in Durkin’s gym.

“Your arm strength doesn’t come from the arm, it comes from your lower body,” Durkin said. “The engine is down low. Your glutes and your legs generate the power. We wanted to work Drew’s legs until they felt they were going to fall off. And that’s what we did.”

After a month in the gym, Brees took his arm to the field. In early July, House said Brees was throwing “45-, 50-yarders like he was 25 years old again.” By late July, House said he was throwing “balls 57, 58 yards without even trying.”

Working alongside former Saints teammate and Detroit Lions quarterback Chase Daniel, Brees conducted a series of passing sessions with a group of NFL and college receivers at nearby Santa Fe Christian School in Solana Beach. Reports were positive.
