How about the curl in on 3rd down where curled in 2 yards short of the 1st down marker?

The point of those short plays is to be a release valve for Brees if he gets pressured quickly. The route is designed that way with the hope that he can break a tackle and get a first down. It doesn't always work out that way. Every team does that.
