Say Something Tom (1 Viewer)

I think we've all wanted to give Benson the benefit of the doubt and we all know he isn't happy with the situation despite being very quiet about it. It is past time to take the gloves off. There are no more legal avenues or pending punishments left to fear. Goodell has done everything he can do and won with shame leaving many heads shaking at each turn. Stand up for yourself. Stand up for your city. Stand up for the business you've poured your heart and soul into. Stand up for the great coach who couldn't stand up for himself. Stand up for Mickey Loomis, one of the best men in the NFL. Stand up for the 65k season ticket holders. Stand up for the millions of Saints fans. Stand up for your players, your staff. All the above make up your team, stand up for your team.

This would mean Tom Benson actually caring what happens to Saints fans, and how we feel. He obviously doesnt, cause all he cares about is profits. The sooner we all "get it" the better we will sleep. Hes an owner, not a fan, not a player, not a coach. His loyalties lie somewhere else

I'm right there with ya man. Although I got flamed for showing my displeasure with how Benson handled this situation, so I'm not sure how this forum will take this post. Either way, I agree, time for Benson to do anything. ANYTHING. We literally have nothing to lose. All our coaches have taken their punishment, our players have been cleared, we aren't getting our draft pick back, and we won't get another super bowl in our house for many more years. What do we have to lose....

I got the flamethrower treatment too. I've been this saying for 9 months now. Benson has taken this whole thing like a little kid who just got suspended from school, and has to be on his best behavior in order to come back. What a joke.

A few questions:

1. Do any of you have the same information that Benson has regarding any efforts by those in management or on the coaching staff to affect NFL bounty allegation investigative efforts and regarding the Vicodin incident?

2. Do any of you know exactly what Benson has or has not said to Goodell in private communications?

3. What concrete action that will help the team do you think Benson can achieve by engaging in a public war with Goodell?

Mr. Benson,

How does it feel? You don't have much time left on this earth, and after finally getting that Hall Of Fame Super Bowl Winning Face of The Franchise caliber quarter back who gives you the chance every year of reaching the pinnacle as an owner, you lose one of those years because Roger Goodell and the 31 other owners needed a scapegoat, a PR win, a dirty WMD to throw out to the public in hope of looking like they care for player safety.

In other words, you just got ******. If that wasn't bad enough, Roger Goodell continues to rub your nose in the ****. After every shred of so called evidence has been disproved at best and showed as contradicting as worst, after the former commissioner and a federal judge have gone on the record that Roger Goodell gave a punishment that exponentially exceeded the crime, and after a tumultuous season of Drew Brees in his prime was wasted, Roger Goodell still finds it necessary to **** you.

The damage was done after the first month of the 2012 season. The damage was done in very public fashion-- quite unfairly with manufactured, false "evidence"-- before the season ever began. Yet Goodell shouted lies louder and louder with increasing frequency, changing his vernacular and semantics when proven wrong. And he continues to do so to this very day.

The 2012 season ended for your team on December 30, 2012 when Carolina put the final nail in the coffin. Yet Roger Goodell still found it necessary to wait until all other teams with coaching vacancies hired new head coaches and most of their staff. Goodell found it necessary to keep Sean suspended until after Senior Bowl practices were already underway. He decided to keep his most unjust punishment in place until 29 other teams were already underway with their 2013 seasons.

And if that aint bad enough, Roger Goodell just gave you the finger on the second round choice he said he would consider giving back if you cooperated with him. In all the time that these punishments were in place, Sean Payton, Mickey Loomis, and YOU have kept your mouths shut and done all that was asked. Yet Roger Goodell still wants to grind an axe and **** you without mercy.

Are you just going to take it? I know hosting Super Bowls brings a lot of revenue to our city, and I know the NFL needs to look as good as possible for the much coveted TV revenues and the pending class action concussion lawsuits. I know you've taken one for the team. But I also know that despite this, Roger Goodell still finds it necessary to look like a hard ***.

I think it is past time you stood up for yourself, your staff, your team, your players and your community. I think its time you attack Roger Goodell and his veracity with as much zeal and publicity as he as you. I think it is time you performed a character assassination. It is time you get on the phone (or plane) and get 23 other owners to find it in their hearts and best interest to make sure you get back a COUPLE of draft choices for recompense, along with another hosting of the Super Bowl in the next available year. I think its time you made threats to go public and blow some **** up for everyone unless they do right by you.

It's time for payback, and you have the power to bring 31 other owners to their knees. Use it.

I have to agree with you, at least mostly. I feel that Benson did try to get his team out of trouble, he might have took a "dont rock the boat" stance, at least the boat that pays millions.

I am wondering if when he found out there was indeed a PFP system in NOLA, which we all know is true, that he stayed silent, at least to the media, and let the players fight it out.

Im telling you this, he will only fight the hand that feeds you to a point. These Owners are millionairs 10 times over, THEY WILL NOT RISK THEIR MONEY!

Now I am not calling Mr. Benson greedy, no sir, but he will not risk his franchise, buisness, NBA team, and other affairs fighting something he knew we had dirty hands on, and thats PFP only.

But thats just my guess, money talks, all else walks.

This. :9:

Seriously, what good will it do? If anything, engaging in a public war with Goodell will diminish whatever moral authority and influence Benson has among his fellow owners because the one thing that fraternity does not do is air its dirty laundry in public. Jerry Jones has pushed the boundaries, and Al Davis, a total rebel, was willing to sue as often as he could. But Benson in several respects is neither Davis nor Jones.

And unlike his predecessors, Goodell has repeatedly shown that in making decisions he errs on the side of his power and authority rather than the side of caution. It's like a college taking on the NCAA. Who nearly always wins?

Clean up the language so you don't look like you are just ranting and send it to the front office. Sign it On Behalf of the Who Dat Nation.

For crying out loud, he kicked the NFL investigator out of the facility. That is the Benson way..he does not run to the press and whine. He just threw the guy out of the house (and suffered no recourse from the NFL for his actions, which should tell you something about the circumstances).

If he goes on a public diatribe against Goodell, he will be 1 owner versus 31. He is not going to do that. He wants to be in the NFL's good graces. he wants another New Orleans Super Bowl. He said his piece to the people who needed to hear it and that is that.

His followers are ready to march, our leader needs to lead

no to answer the above, none of us know any of it at all. If anything, what I would have liked the most, was for Benson to call a public meeting with a handful of owners. He could just say to his fans - hey I did this. Hey Im alive. Hey it was just. What has he achieved by just leaving us in the dark?

I hope most of you realize that Goodell will be watching the SB from Benson's private suite, with Benson. Not disagreeing with anything said, but I don't think Mr. Benson is going to be too confrontational going forward. At least not publicly.

yea, that is going to look great. He just said this week that their will be no Saints 2nd rounder and we have to watch shots of them together. Makes the point even more. Tom looks powerless :jpshakehead:

Benson doesnt have to go public and tarnish his and the other 31 owner's brand. He just has to send a league-wide email with the threat-- a copy of what he "will" release to the public IF he doesnt get -----.

He has much leverage and a viable threat because in his eyes (bluff) hes got nothing to lose considering the time hes got left. The nfl played a dirty little political game. He has leverage to do so behind the scenes with threat of going public and ruining it for everyone
