The playbook is officially wide open now whenever TH is in the game.

You can’t defend him like Drew or he’ll run through you for an easy 10-15 yards. You can’t defend the wildcat or he’ll have passing options.

Playoff Taysom could be lethal.

In that situation, where you are pulling Brees to insert Taysom, odds are it's going to be a run play. You don't take out your best passer for a designed passing play (unless it's a trick of some sorts)

I was thinking about this earlier today. It's too bad the Saints can't and shouldn't do anything with Drew on the plays he remains out on the field. It's certainly going to be harder now for opposing defenses to figure out what we're doing with Taysom when he's at QB. At minimum Taysom will have a lot more confidence out there when he's at QB. Taysom does need to protect the ball better when running.

It’s all about how defenses play you, though. The passing windows are so much larger for QBs who can run because defenses have to account for it.

If you’re a defense and you try to play Hill like you would Brees, he will destroy you with his legs.

If Taysom sees defenses play him like they used to? He can beat you with traditional SP passing concepts.

I’m guessing SP will send Taysom out there with two plays when Drew is back. If the D plays a traditional passing set, you do more “gadget” stuff. If they’re lined up for the wildcat/usual Taysom stuff, you give him the ability to audible to a passing concept.

I don't understand why they often leave Drew on the field when Taysom comes in behind center. When Drew stays on the field it becomes 10 v 11 which gives the Def an advantage since Drew either stands still or retreats as he should.

If Brees isn’t on the field...the defend puts an extra run defender in the game. It’s a matter of personnel. Apparently the Saints think that having a nickel defender with Brees out there is better than giving the defense an extra LB with Brees off the field. And ultimately...defense still end up covering Brees at WR with a CB.

When they are both on the field we are basically 11 vs 10 players.

So whatever play we run must be awesome.

Technically, but not really. Drew always lines up wide and the defense has to account for him and put a corner on him, which basically takes that defender out of the play.

Exactly. They still have to use a body to cover Drew. They know Drew isn't going out for a pass but if you don't cover him he can step backwards take a lateral and at that point he will have somebody open downfield on a severely busted coverage 9 out of 10 times.

I'm not following what this has to do with Brees coming back. That's just the offense when TH is your QB, full stop. That's what makes him so dangerous as a QB, and why seeing him being able to pass with pretty good accuracy will really start to open things up for AK and LM.

Denver is going to have to account for TH's passing ability, most of the first half will be ground and pound forcing the defense in, and the second half TH strikes again through the air. Pretty much the exact opposite of last week, when Atlanta opened up with heavy run defense, and the "oh crap he can pass" response opening up the ground game.

Taysom is definitely going to benefit from this playing time. So the team may be better once Drew comes back.

I think so, but he's passing well enough that you have that option and defenses will have to be paying attention. They can't just stack the box and dare to pass anymore, imo.
