A DIFFERENT-LOOKING DIVISION LEADER
If you had to draw a picture of how a football team is supposed to look when it is 4-2 and tied for first place in its division, chances are good that you wouldn't be drawing a team with a mean-looking blue raven with a gold "B" on one side of its head. The Ravens, co-leaders with Cincinnati in the AFC North, had their bye last week at the right time -- when the team was struggling and in need of change.
Baltimore is coming off consecutive losses to Denver (13-3 on Oct. 9) and Carolina (23-21 on Oct. 15). In those two games Baltimore's offense was exposed as slow and prodding, and it ranks 28th in the NFL with an average of 271.7 yards per game. So Coach Brian Billick fired good friend Jim Fassel as offensive coordinator Oct. 17, and will take over the offense and call plays for the first time since his first season with the Ravens in 1999. Billick was the offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings from 1993 to '98, and the team set an NFL record with 556 points in his last season.
