Sean Payton credits Andy Reid for successful, hands-off bye week strategy (1 Viewer)

The New Orleans Saints are taking some time off during their Week 9 bye, sending players and coaches home to be with their families and friends outside of football. It’s an approach Saints coach Sean Payton has found success with, and one that he learned from one of the few people to work as a head coach longer than he has: Andy Reid. When asked how his team would be handling their schedule during the bye week this year, Payton confirmed that they’d be sticking with Reid’s suggestion.

“Look, I’m going back to Andy Reid’s theory,” Payton said during his Monday press conference. “When we struggled early here the first three or four years. Our record after the bye wasn’t very good and (I) called up Andy and I asked him for the schedule. He said, ‘Well, I just told them to get out of here. I’ll see them next Monday.’”
