New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton is almost always up for throwing in his two cents when the NFL is considering changing the way it does it business. Whether he’s taking aim at “all-star” officiating crews for playoff games or the instant-replay process, Payton typically lets his feelings be known.
But when it comes to modifying the annual series of preseason games, Payton deferred to the experts.
“There’s been a lot of discussion relative to the preseason and the regular season and honestly, I think a lot of that’ll be something that’s handled by the management council and the union,” Payton said during media availability following Saints practice this week. Payton was asked for his thoughts on the matter after NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suggested four preseason games aren’t necessary; an argument league ownership has used before to push for an expanded regular season by trimming the exhibition games.
