It’s not easy for rookies to make an impact on the New Orleans Saints’ squad. It’s certainly difficult for defensive backs who weren’t picked until the last day of the draft; the Saints selected two of them last year, and neither Natrell Jamerson nor Kamrin Moore made the cut on a loaded depth chart. This year, Rutgers safety Saquan Hampton found himself in the exact same position.

But Hampton’s seized the opportunity a little stronger than his predecessors. The rookie has posted two highlight reel-worthy interceptions in his latest two practices, picking off backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and starting passer Drew Brees each in turn. It was the first interception Brees threw in team drills during training camp.
