Sean Payton on ESPN First Take Now! (1 Viewer)

I don't think this is anything different from what most people have been saying on the board. We can't afford all three but Teddy says he wants to stay and TH is restricted. Drew is the unknown but it's his decision to make.

I’m thinking screw it, sign Brees, Bridgewater, Franchise hill and then trade all the licks for Burrow. The timing is right. Let’s go with 4 QBs. That’s the meal ticket! Championship!

You're right, but here is what is different now...the deal is sealed. Teddy isn't coming back. He can't. The Glazer report (which we know comes from Sean) about Hill being the future closed the door on Teddy. Even if Drew stays another year, Teddy can't stick around under the pretense of having a chance at the starting job the following year. Either Drew is going to start next year, or Hill will start next year, or some other free agent/draft choice will start next year, but it will 100% not be Teddy (outside of injury). If Drew retires, same situation. The set of possible starting QBs does not include Teddy, and if he sticks around he is acquiescing to that role of expensive backup that dances around the locker room and capably steps in for a stretch if needed. If he's not willing to accept being a backup, he has to try somewhere else. Sean did him a solid by making that clear through the Glazer information pipeline.

On top of this, Sean is now making it clear that we can't keep all 3 and that we have the Restricted status of Hill to keep him. So he is overtly saying either Hill and Drew stay next year, or Hill and (fill in the blank) are here next year, but Teddy is not part of that picture.

Okay, we will see.
