It’s not all that often the New Orleans Saints put a rookie into the starting rotation, but this year may be an exception after the team spent their first draft pick on a center.
Erik McCoy was the Saints’ initial draft selection, taken out of Texas A&M in the second round ideally as the long term replacement for Max Unger, who retired this offseason.
Head coach Sean Payton believes that may be a possibility, but said the team was always going to add a more experienced option at the position, just in case.
“Look that’s a fair question,” Payton told The Rich Eisen Show in answer to the question of if McCoy was the favorite to replace Unger.
