Don’t ask Sean Payton whether or not he’s going to rest his starters this week.
Already having clinched the No. 1 seed in the NFC and with it home field advantage throughout the playoffs after their victory over Pittsburgh on Sunday, the Saints are now faced with the possibility of sitting their main playmakers for their regular season finale.
When asked that question a few times over the last day or so, the Saints head coach finally had enough, and answered the query once and for all in his own way.
“I’m going to specify for the fourth time,” Payton said, agitated.
“You ready? I can’t be any more clear, all right? We’re going to approach this game just like we would a regular season game, and if there’s any changes to the lineups, I’ll keep you posted. I’m done answering that question. That’s four in the last 24 hours.”
The coach added that he doesn’t have a set view on resting starters.
“Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope,” Payton said. “I don’t have a general philosophy. Each team is different.” ...
