By virtue of the tie breaker rules, the division leader of the NFC west is settled 1st. That would be Seattle, based on the Hawks win over the Niners. Then the next tie breaker would be between the Saints and Hawks. The Saints would have the advantage over the Hawks, based on their win against the Hawks.

Anyone else see it differently?

I'm not sure if I'm mentioned this on here before, but I'm not.... smart.

I'm what is commonly referred to as "basic" or "slower".

In short - Who should I root for tonight? Like, I know there are multiple considerations or whatever, but what's more advantageous to the Saints?
Frankly, it's impossible to know right now who will win the NFC West and what their final record will be. If you are one who believes the Saints will lose to the Niners next week, then you probably want the Vikings to win tonight. But if you see the Saints beating the Niners, you will be happier to see Seattle win tonight.

In some ways it takes the pressure off of us regarding who wins tonight, because it really depends on what happens in the coming weeks to fully understand how much the winner tonight will matter. But if you like titles, the Saints will be the Week 13 - #1 Seed if Seattle wins tonight.

And also keep in mind that if the Saints can win out in their last four games, we get the HFA throughout the playoffs. This is really more important than any other scenario out there.

This might help: http://playoffstatus.com/nfl/saintswhatif.html :ezbill:

We should win next week, so I think we should root for the Vikes tonight.

Not too much prayer needed. Kirk Cousins vs the Seahawks defense, IN Seattle. >_<

Well, no matter what happens tonight, the biggest game on both the Saints and the 49ers schedule happens at noon next Sunday. It will give one of our teams a huge advantage going forward.

#1 seed for 5 days, meaningless unless we beat the 49ers :sir-saint:
Absolutely correct...There is a long way to go with a number of seed impacting games to play over the next 4 weeks. From a Saints standpoint beating the niners is very important to getting and keeping that #1 seed, however. The niners frankly have a tough schedule ahead and none of us should discount Green Bay as they can still sneak into that spot, which would be a real challenge in January playing in the tundra of Lambeau!

There are multiple scenarios in which the Saints finish 13-3 and don’t get a bye, and they all involve the Vikes beating the Hawks.

All outside sources say that the best odds for the Saints to finish as the highest possible seed is for the Seahawks to win tonight. This is due to the Saints owning the tiebreaker over Seattle earlier in the year. So the Saints would own the #1 Seed this week even though the Seahawks will have the same Win/Loss record after beating the Vikings tonight.

But the one thing we don't want is for the Seahawks to have a one game lead on us and win the NFC West after Week 17, or else we could possibly have to play a rematch with Seattle at CenturyLink Field with them having a week of rest to prepare for us. So while mathematically it's better for Seattle to win tonight... it's also pretty scary.

But once again, if we can manage to win out, it doesn't matter what anyone else does because right now we control out own destiny.
So let's just win all of our remaining games so we don't have to worry about what happens in any other game! :9:

Seattle needs to lose tonight. That is all you need to know.
Not a true statement. We do not play the Vikings so we have no opportunity to give them another loss. You always want the teams you do not play, that are close to your record, to lose to the teams you have either already defeated, or will have the chance to defeat. Very simple. That is all you need to comprehend.

Agree.

Plus, both NFC North contenders (GB and Minnesota) have easy schedules the rest of the way. In a perfect world, Minnesota loses this one, takes out GB at home, and Seattle loses one of their tougher games left. I could actually see Seattle losing in LA next weekend.

Congrats y'all we get to be the #1 seed next week.. we were already playing at home anyways. Now if Seattle wins out we have to win out to get the #1 seed. If Seattle would have lost tonight then we could afford to lose 1 game provided we beat the 49ers because Seattle could hand San Fran another loss later this season.
