This is my CVS. Happened last week.

The footage of the officer first entering the store... it scared me to death. I could not be a police officer.

did they get the perps?

Yes. They cordoned off the neighborhood and captured one guy in a few minutes (the one who stumbled after being shot) and found the other guy a few hours later in an alley nearby.

The third cop, female one. I don't get her shooting from that distance. Just as likely to hit someone else than the actual perps from 50+ feet away. I don't know what's normal protocol, but it just seemed like she was too far away to be effective.

I'm with Sparkle though. I don't think I could ever be a cop. That's a tough, tough spot to be in.

Crazy. And also another manifestation of the opioid epidemic. Damn

So how do you specifically associate this case, with the opioid epidemic? Because they filled a bag with drugs and robbed the store of money?

I simply associate this crime with two criminals, being criminals. I suppose we could equate (find a root cause excuse) for all similar crimes, other than to say some people would prefer to just prey on the hard working folks, because it is the easy way. Let’s find causes other than the real reason.

I guess by your reasoning, a criminal that steals 100’s of automobile rims from a car dealership, is because of the craving of rims epidemic, and not because it was an easy way out, to make 10’s of thousands of dollars. Yawn.

Well, it's entirely possible they were high. I mean, they weren't afraid to run through a hail of bullets by the cops.

It's an assumption, but there's no question there's a massive opioid problem though.

I was there the day before this incident
Glad the officers were safe
Also very glad it didn’t happen later in the day

Maybe one might want to try to reduce and/or protect against crime
If so, understanding the whys and wherefores would be helpful
no?

100% yes, but how one can deduct, this crime was a result of the opioid epidemic, is not necessarily, the reason. And surely, as most should know, there is an opioid epidemic. I think the majority of robberies are based on an easy way to make a buck, rather than earn an honest living through hard work. But I suppose, many feel that is not a proper and rational thought. How about one sees someone else doing something (committing a robbery) such as earning a quick buck, so I will do the same thing, mentality? I think it is human nature. And it is a culture that has to be broken. How is that done? We could discuss this ad nauseam, with no real answer. If there were a real answer, would you not think it would have been solved, as to why the epidemic of violent crime is continuing?

FWIW these 2 guys were from Indianapolis and alleged to be part of a larger ring of armed robbers that are linked to a number of CVS robberies around the country. They were after pills not cash.

Not sure if they were directly after opiods but this was not 2 guys from the neighborhood trying to grab some cash.

I think we can safely assume they were robbing the pharmacy of narcotics most likely opioids. Very scary situation for those officers. I'm glad they were not killed. Definitely, a tough job.

Shoot-out robberies at the drug store aren’t common. They were taking pills - either because they have a personal need for them or because the black market is so strong that criminals are willing to rob CVS with guns blazing.

I can guess they probably weren’t there to steal viagra or Xanax even though those are sold on the black market.

But you’re right, I can’t say with 100 % certainty, if you want to get pedantic. But if this supposed crime ring are robbing drug stores to get opiates, it’s clearly a manifestation of the problem. I suppose we’ll have to find out but if I was a betting man . . .
