Saints Seems like every other team expected to sign Bridgewater (Speculation) (1 Viewer)

Teddy can make all of throws Garappolo can and maybe better. With that run game and defense he would have a good chance to return them to the Super Bowl and possibly win it
I'm not sure the Niners agree.

If he stays here, I'll cheer for him willingly and gladly, but I think it's a stretch to say he's proven himself a significantly better option than Garoppalo to this point.

I can see Teddy going to 3 teams that fit his style; Chicago, New England, LA Chargers.

I don’t think Bruce Arians will go for Teddy. I feel he will either stick with Jamison or draft a QB. Arians likes a QB that can sling it and that’s not Teddy’s style.

Same as we don't get why others immediately discard Taysom as a QB.

Taysom has not gotten the opportunity to even practice full time as QB but for a month (maybe) with the Packers 3 years ago. Yet, the talent is obvious (size, mobility, arm strength, etc), so are the glimpses on the field.

Here is a list of places where Bridgewater has shown the ability to be an accurate, efficient, cerebral and above-average starting quarterback against high level competition:
- In college at Louisville
- In the minds of hundreds of pro scouts and people who cover football and the draft
- In the NFL in Minnesota
- In the NFL with the Saints

Here is a list of places where Taysom has done the same:

The reason some people give Bridgewater more "credit" or whatever you're seeking is because Bridgewater has actually proven his ability. Taysom's is purely speculative and hoping to see something that he's never shown before. We know Teddy is an above-average NFL starting QB who is still young with a lot of room to grow.

The poster who you're replying to (@No2DC ) really makes a great point, though. It's interesting that you and some others assume future growth out of Taysom Hill but not Teddy Bridgewater despite Hill being two and a half years older. Odd, considering Teddy scored higher on the Wonderlic test than Taysom did. Maybe Taysom just "seems" smarter to some people.

At this point, I'm tired of the stating the obvious. If Drew leaves this year, he's the best and most practical chance to maintain stability.
I really don't get how many of TH advocates can project growth with one guy and not same the same the other. His floor is a respectable franchise QB (not top 5 at the position) and a playoff caliber team.
We need to ask ourselves what the realistic QB goal post-Drew. Everyone wants the next Mahommes or Drew, but history says that will probably take a while. In the meantime, I just think Teddy is the pragmatic and proven option.

Practical, Realistic, Pragmatic, Respectable. You are doing a great job selling Teddy as the Ho Hum Yawner candidate. Frankly I agree with you.

Can you understand why some of us would rather walk away from the nickel slots and roll the dice on a higher risk jackpot. A QB that offers the possibility he will be a national sensation.

I personally don't want to just be respectable, realistic or pragmatic after Drew. I want the Saints to explode, dominate and be the water cooler topic every Monday morning .

I love Teddy.

Why do many of us think he is just a game manager. Studying under Brees for 2-years and learning under genius SP, Why do we think he will not continue to improve his game. I don't think we know how good or great he really can be. And we know he is a great leader whose teammates love to follow. Of course if he goes to a QB hell team, he will never develop. Under SP?

We all love Teddy. He’s a good guy coming back from a horrific injury. How could you not root for the guy?

Why do some of us think he’s a game manager? Because that’s what he was with the Vikings and during the 5-0 run with the Saints. He made only “safe” throws and took sacks when no one was open. Over the course of the 5-0 run it was the Saints’ Defense that was absolutely incredible and responsible for the majority of winning those games. Now to his credit Teddy did not hurt the Defense by putting them in bad positions. Exactly what a game manager is supposed to do.

We all knew Teddy was going to be a much sought after Free Agent. He operated well in Payton’s multiple read, quick react Offense. He didn’t hurt the team with stupid turnovers and knew the playbook. So it doesn’t surprise me every team that needs a QB and doesn’t have a top draft pick is looking toward him. But rest assured if Brees retires and Payton wants him back Mickey Loomis will get Teddy re signed.

Oh, here I thought you weren't here to engage posters like me.

I don't know about college, but as far as the NFL goes, "above average" and "cerebral" are in the eye of the beholder, I guess, because what Bridgewater did in Minnesota and in 5 games with the Saints this past season is hardly "above average" or "cerebral".

“ If we average his five starts into 16 starts then Bridgewater would have finished with 3,856 yards, 29 touchdowns and six interceptions. The only quarterback to finish with 3,800+ passing yards, 29+ passing touchdowns and six or fewer interceptions this season was Russell Wilson.

It only happened in five instances in the entire decade, belonging to Wilson, Aaron Rodgers (twice), Tom Brady and Drew Brees.”

Of course they are.

I wonder what your eye is seeing.

You don't need to reply - we all know.

Ah, yes. There is the condescending Loose Cannon we all know and love.

Baby steps: what do you consider "above average" and "cerebral" of TB in Minnesota?

Edit: and of course, he puts me on his ignore list... because Loose Cannon cannot back up what he says. Slow clap.

Oh and Lamar Jackson scored 13 in his Wonderlic :hihi:

I've been on the fence on whether or not a team would offer Teddy a multi-year starting QB contract. If even a few of these rumors are true, then I guess that would answer that. It's not that I don't think Teddy is Franchise material, because I do. Mostly I'm thinking how teams like new and shiny prospects with a rookie contract. Which is what I'd like to see happen here in New Orleans this year or next.

But that too is just my opinion. Mostly based on me wanting to keep the rest of our roster intact over the next 4 or 5 years.

But yet he hasn't started a single regular season game as a starter at QB. Teddy has never had a chance to be free in a SP offense, so we do not know how he would play without nothing to lose as a backup to Drew. He played with a conservative coach in Minn. but we gonna eliminate his potential for growth. Ryan Leaf was big and strong as well, as was Tim Teabow.

But you have to play the games...

Compensatory picks are real. And will get a same or higher pick than he would in a trade IMO.

This forum has overvalued our back up QBs as trade assets for years, I got tired of reading how Luke McCown would pull in a very high pick, for example ?

If we'd have locked Teddy up for 2 to 3 years when we re-signed him last season, we'd likely be able to get a 2nd or even a 1st round pick for him this year. But that wasn't going to happen, because I believe the potential windfall Teddy's about to get was the bait that Sean Payton used to get him to stay one more year with us.

And if he does cash in big time... that unforeseen 5 game stretch where Drew was out will be the main reason for his payday. One of those rare times in life where things actually fall perfectly into place for a deserving person.

Taysom has been very good at every position he has been slotted into. Those that argue he could never be a starter at any of them are nuts. Only 22 WR/TE in the NFL had more receiving TD s and only 15 had more total TDs. Those are stater numbers.

So, by what you are saying, neither has had the opportunity to really show what they have, correct?
