Semper's Stupendous to Infinity and Beyond Everything Marvel Movie/TV Thread (3 Viewers)

Elizabeth Olsen has appeared to confirm that she won’t be involved in the next two Avengersmovies, which are set to start filming back-to-back in London imminently.

Olsen plays Wanda Maximoff (aka Scarlet Witch) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and was last seen as the prime antagonist in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Given that the conclusion to that film left Wanda’s story open-ended it was assumed that she would be returning in the forthcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, due for release in 2026 and 2027 respectively.

However, Olsen has potentially dashed the hopes of fans longing to see her in those films, after The Hollywood Reporter asked her if the Russo Brothers are going to be extending “[her] stay" in London.…….

Yes, because there isn't a long and well established track record of Marvel actors lying about not being in movies.

Question for marvel nerds

Where does the MCU go after introducing Sentry? (unless he goes away) isnt he arguably one of the most powerful beings ever in the MCU?

He is, but...
they have introduced some weaknesses for him over the years. Specifically he is weak to antimatter and fairly powerless if he ends up in The Negative Zone. He's got a ton of mental illnesses and phobias which take him out of fights that he otherwise would dominate in. He is also susceptible to psychic attacks because of all those mental issues. A key component of his character is that despite all his godlike power he is at the mercy of very human and very severe mental and emotional problems.

He also has a counterpart/other personality (its much more complicated than that by far, but I'm trying to simplify) called The Void that he is pretty much constantly locked in a battle for control with, which also curbs his effectiveness. And sufficiently powerful characters can go toe to toe with him. An insanely pissed off Hulk was able to stalemate him in World War Hulk and knock him out of his Sentry form back into his human form. Sentry did knock Hulk back into Banner as well, so neither came out on top.

That's impressive. I wish I could tell someone "I'll knock the Hulk right out of you!"

Oh yeah, and...

Knull just straight up killed his arse. Ripped him in half. His ghost haunted the Earth's orbit for a while. Not making that up. He literally haunted space.

This looks like the best thing they have done in a while. I will be headed to the theater.

the latest thunderbolts trailer kinda ruined it for me in a way. It showed Yelana voluntarily stepping into the black void which means you can get out of the void. So obviously everyone who went in will be saved at the end of the movie. Lowers the stakes for me.

Was watching Infinity War this morning and I just have a hard time understanding the Hulk thing. Yeah Thanos hit him and beat him up but I would say he got his butt kicked way worse from Thor in Ragnarok and he didn’t become a wimp. Can anyone explain?

I think each survivor dealt with the guilt/trauma in their own way (Thor let himself go, Nat buried herself in work) and that was Banner’s way

Just my personal view

Deus ex machina

As Stan Lee once said in an interview, the character that the writer determines will win the fight is the one who will win the fight. So, for Hulk's reaction, the only explanation is that's just the way the writers wrote it. Sometimes it doesn't make logical sense to anyone else.

Actually I think this is where the audience’s responsibility starts
To understand that logic is only one tool in our fan toolbox
We should be able to tease out possible (even plausible) explanations just like we do when a 15 seed beats a 2 seed

We could argue Hulk wasn’t really dialed in on Sakaar and had been battling cream puffs and Thor was on a mission
With Thanos it could simply be when the bully meets a bigger bully- Hulk’s whole identity just craters

My go to for this is the time Silver Surfer, a character so powerful he can shrug off the pull of black holes, once got knocked out by some regular guy throwing a brick at his head.

Hell, if you go to the Marvel wiki and look at the powers and abilities section for many characters, they literally have a disclaimer saying that due to artistic license and various writers, the highs and lows of a character's displayed abilities are all over the place and they're just trying to give an overview.

I watch videos of this guy that has his viewers recommend fights between fictional characters and he does a breakdown of their skills, powers, etc. to see who would win in a hypothetical fight. He's on more than one occasion talked about how he hates when someone recommends a Marvel or DC character because, to paraphrase, they've had so many different writers trying so many different things that any given character has been a god at some point and also knocked out by a regular humans punch at some point.
