Senior Bowl Buzz / Player Profiles on some top players (1 Viewer)

I don't understand why some people are down on Connor...is it a Big Ten thing? He's a better backer than Posluszny, IMO, definitely more mobile.

Well, Connor looked horrible in the senior bowl and was never a top 10 prospect

Looked horrible? I guess an interception and several point of attack tackles is horrible to you, but he looked pretty good to me.

He may not have been SPECTACULAR, but he certainly wasn't horrible IMHO.

There are some on this board who can't objectively observe players and understand that positions need certain attributes.

connor was in on tackles and in the hole and Rivers was around tackles and didn't do diddly. If anyone looked horrible in the game it was Rivers. Connors looked far better. Just my opinion but take your heads out of the rear ends of draft experts and make decisions based off of play and not off of someone elses comments.

If you can honestly say Rivers performed better than Connor is this game then there is nothing anyone can say to convince you otherwise...

Alot of people who watched the game have reported Conners looked weak and got knocked on his butt several times. So whos telling the truth?

For everyone person who says Connnor is "weak" you have another person saying he is "strong." It all depends on what the poster views as traits in a Lb.

I watched the game twice and there are many times where Connor smashed the hole and either made a tackle or caused a pile up. I am going to re-watch the game a third time and key on Rivers and Connor and I will take another look, an objective look that is.

I am all for the Saints getting something worth while for their ten pick. I don't care who it is as long as it is a player and not someone who has the look but actually makes plays!

I totally agree with you, NUSaintsfan.....I admit I haven't seen the game, and can't comment on his play, but here I'm hearing conflicting reports about his play.....that's why I listen to what Pat Kirwan said about him.....and I like what I hear, especially that it looks like Connor is the best LB in this year's draft....of course is still early.

If Connors is the best LB in the draft this year, then it is probably a weak LB draft. I didn't think he was SPECTACULAR, but thought he was solid. I don't view him as the second coming of Urlacher, which I would expect for a #10 pick. I wouldn't think he would be a reach in the 15-20 pick range... I would have to say though that I didn't see any other linebackers push themselves up to the #10 position. Ali Highsmith looked decent, but I think he is a Cover-2 linebacker in the Cato June mold.

Sedrick Ellis on the the other hand looked like the second coming of Warren Sapp. Seriously. He was a monster out there. Heck I really liked Trevor Laws too. I wouldn't mind picking up Trevor Laws with our 2nd round pick even if we pick up Sedrick Ellis with our first round pick. Both of our DT positions need some kick butt youth.

So if not Connor, who is the best LB in this year's draft? Rivers? I seen posts here which say that Connor looked better than Rivers in the game....

What do ya'll know about this guy. Looks like he's a returner on top of being a CB. Anyone know how he did in the game?

CB Leodis McKelvin, Troy
BUZZ: McKelvin had a very strong week of practice. He is a top athlete with excellent quickness. His speed translates well to the field. He is a highly rated return specialist, and could really shine in a game where several players are not used to covering kicks. He has the talent to be a difference-maker every time he touches the ball, and he can recover quickly when playing corner.

McKlevin is a definite possibility and he may have played himself to 10.

Ok, after watching the game for a third time I realized something...neither Connor or Rivers are worth a ten pick.

When Connor was in the game Rivers played strong side and when Connor was out of the game Rivers played MLB.

Quickly, Connors lines up 4 yds off the LOS and Rivers lines up 5 yds. Being an extra yard back off the line accounted for many plays that Rivers was in on were an easy for or five yards off the LOS. That is horrible for a LB and is not different than Shanle or Simaneau. Connor had more of a tendency to attack the LOS and either clog a running lane or fight through a block and peel off making the tackle. at times he looked hesitant but I believe that stems from not being in the defense long. (only two weeks)

Rivers appears to be the better LB in pass coverage because he is a tad bit more athletic but Connor isn't horrible. Definitely better than our current MLB.

Rivers took pretty poor angles at times and even took himself out of plays near him because of his poor angles. Doesn't fight through blocks often and would rather try to go around a blocker and use his athleticism rather than through him and cause disruption on the play. The play he caused the fumble on was 12 yards downfield and Forte runs upright while at the same time taking a hit at the bottom by Tribble. Rivers hit the top and I am sure it didn't feel too good when Forte who has a brutal running style getting smacked from the top by Rivers and Tribble from below. Point is it was 12 yards down the field on a shuttle pass left after he bit on the run fake. Bites on play fakes but has the athleticism to make up for his mistakes on some plays. doesn't use his peripheral vision real well which often caught him looking in the back field to read the play and by time he recognized it he had a hat on him and the play was by him.

Connor would get caught up in traffic and is weak in the lowerbody keeping him from driving through blocks once he gets a hat on him. one play he would make a tackle for one gain which we aren't accustomed to since the Dome Patrol or even Winfred Tubbs and the next he would read the play wrong and take himself out of the play. I feel that would easily be remedied after being in a system for longer than two weeks. Appears to be very smart which makes up for his physical weaknesses in some areas.

If we are looking for a MLB then connor would definitely be the pick, if the pick was for an WLB then Rivers would be the pick which would let him flow to the play from the back side. I don't feel Rivers has the mentality to play strong side in the NFL. Connors definitely has the better instincts but Rivers has the better athleticism. But I would prefer a LB with instincts over a LB who didn't. Neither LB in my opinion is worth a top ten pick but it is still early. If I were to pick between Connor or Rivers based off the numerous times I have seen them play I would chose Connor because of his smarts and instincts. but as i previously said none are worth the ten pick right now with still a lot of time to go. I think both players are in the 15-20 range as of right now.

Laws and Cromartie are going to be players in the NFL and if Laws is there in the 2nd then you go get him. He is a smart player who is built for the 3 technique. Always plays around the ball and it would be great for the Saints to land Laws. I really wish the CB from Troy would have played but I can see Cromartie being drafted in the first by someone or early second at the latest. Laws might even move into the 1st with the combine and workouts, he is just that good and I feel he is better than Balmer.

thank you!!!!! especially at 10. Poz went in the second and we have people wanting to take him at 10? i don't get how this is smart draft etiquette? especially how deep lbs are this year.

Paul Poz is a stud. He was playing like a top 10 pick until he was injured. Do your research before you start blathering please.
