***Server Migration imminent. EDIT - Now Completed*** (1 Viewer)

Also, the better alternative to 1-time donations, is if you hit the "Subscribe" link and subscribe with $4/mo or more, you won't get ads, and there are a bunch of little perks that come with being a subscriber, which are listed on the page.

I sure appreciate your support.

Dedicated. One webserver and one database server. It's through Knownhost. They are the best!
I just subbed. It's not much, but the best that I can currently do. Thank you for doing what you do Andrus.

The migration didn't go as planned. My apologies! We are actually back on the old servers at the moment. There were hiccups on the Saintsreport.com end of the migration. I get it. SR has a very large database that is hosted on a remote server as a standalone seperate from the webserver. The last time we migrated in 2018 it was a tough migration also. So there are some kinks to work out before they try again.

Better yet, below are the exchanges with the techs beginning about 3am, in reverse order. Read if interested in how unexpected issues can occur, and how irritable I can get without sleep. :hihi:

Hi Andrus,

Moving in a different direction. Returned the live site back to the original servers so that it's online and operational and you're not experiencing issues.

Given the situation regarding this specific website, we'll migrate this one manually instead of via the transfer tool and coordinate with you given the size.

Regards,

Hi Andrus,

The main site was working prior to the attempt to re-transfer which then reverted work performed that would have let to a working website. There were some particulars that occurred that should have changed the way we handled this.

cPanel not being able to properly transfer remote mysql databases for one, should have been a big red flag.

I'm still working on importing the saints database, it's 25 gigs and there is a search table that it's getting hung up on. I'm working to get it to work through that as quick as MySQL can actually process.

The credentials have been corrected.

Jonathan, Wow! My phone has been blowing up since about 6:00am with members asking what's going on. I went to bed at 4:50 am, so you know I am not feeling it right now. Hope it doesn't take too long because I need some sleep, and the site being down for too long is bad for business. The question is, why did it go live when the main live sites obviously weren't working?

Also, I tried to get into the new servers WHM but the credentials I was sent don't work.

I was given the following:

User: **************
Pass: *******************

I keep getting invalid login messages. Can you check on that, please?

Hi Andrus,

Just keeping you updated.

Database import is what's taking so long right now.

For a quick breakdown, cPanel's transfer tool dropped the ball when it came to importing/transferring the saints database.

Warning: The MySQL restore process exited with the error “255”.
Warning: Removed empty DB for failed restore of “saintsre_xf2_new”.

I grabbed it and am currently manually importing it.

An FYI - In case you are unaware, right now the sites aren't working... I am getting the error below:

"An unexpected database error occurred. Please try again later."

None of the accounts email is working either.

Hi Andrus,

Just FYI: The transfer is still ongoing. My shift is coming to an end, however i've added my internal ticket notes, so the next migration specialist will continue with this where I left off, and assist with updating the DNS records at your registrar.

Hi Andrus,

Thanks for the details. This is still taking some time to complete, but we will get that sorted for you once the transfer conclude and things look good.

You will receive any additional info after the adjustment.

Mods!!!!! Can we merge the server migration threads please?? I’m getting very confused! Whose server? What server??

:hihi: kidding

For Andrus:

Just curious... what percentage of members are monthly $$ subscribers?

I know that for several years I was one of the "...I'm gonna give something pretty soon" crowd. Then, I decided to quit procrastinating and make a small, regular contribution that is debited each month.

Voila. Excuses gone.

Encouraging my other SR brothers and sisters to do the same.

Peace, out.

@Andrus - Will the survivorbowl database get migrated as well, or should I try to get a dump of it now (just in case).

Oh yeah! Who in Lafayette called me at 4:27am? LOL! C'mon man!

Jerry, they are supposed to move everything, but I suppose that it wouldn't hurt of grab a full backup of that database. I regularly do full backups of SR, so I would think that the SB database is included in the back ups, but I am not 100% certain of that. It's a little confusing being the databases and webservers are on different servers. I'm no sysad.

There are about 90 subscribers, so maybe 1.5% of the active regular members.

I appreciate your support, as well as the user encouragement. :9:
