So, my wife (who works in International Development) was asked by her company to fill a position in Ramallah (which is in the West Bank, not too far from Jerusalem). It would be a great career move for her - basically we'd save more just on her salary there, than our 2 incomes here.

There are some decent options for schooling for our kids - although the best ones would be in West Jerusalem.

I'm pretty comfortable with my ability to find interesting things to do there, so I'm not too concerned about that... what says the forum?

If you think it will be a safe environment for you family:

Make a list of the pros and cons and see which one wins. Sounds to me like the pros will emerge successful.

I admire the courage and assume you know your way around.

I'd be afraid of getting caught between the extremists on both sides.

I've been to Jerusalem a few times -- pretty cool town. I've never been to Ramallah - only Bethlehem -- but it's supposedly very quiet. I almost never read anything in the news about it -- which is a good thing.

Yeah... that's the way it's looking right now. The biggest question mark is how will the kids adjust. My oldest is about ready to start sports, and really wants to play baseball -- I don't think there's much of that there.... he'll have to play soccer (football)

I voted yes...with the bargaining chip of course. :hihi:

Sure there's an element of danger. But there's an element of danger anywhere you go. Your kids will benefit greatly from experiencing other cultures and societies.

This.^

I'd go in a heartbeat to nearly anywhere. Don't miss the chance.

isn't the reason they pay so much *because* of the danger??

Yes, it kind of cracks me up... right now there is a 20% danger pay, but it's still a family post. That being said, I'm really not that concerned about our safety, or it wouldn't be an option.

How's this for a deal... if I give up my job and move to Ramallah, my wife will buy me a plane ticket and tickets to the Superbowl if the Saints make it?
