...let's look at the most recent team that ALMOST got it done: The 2007 Patriots.

Here is New England's record for that year, including the Super Bowl. Based on the stats shown (which shows each opponent's FINAL 2007 regular season record), what can you say about this info vs. what the Saints have done so far?

@Jets.......(4-12).............................................38-14__(+24)
Chargers...(11-5)............................................38-14__(+24)
Bills..........(7-9)...............................................38-7__(+31)
@Bengals..(7-9).............................................34-13__(+21)
Browns.....(10-6)............................................34-17__(+17)
@Cowboys(13-3)............................................48-27__(+21)
@Dolphins.(1-15)............................................49-28__(+21)
Redskins...(9-7)..............................................49-28__(+21)
@Colts.....(13-3)..............................................24-20__(+4)
@Bills.......(7-9)...............................................56-10__(+46)
Eagles......(8-8).............................................31-28__(+3)
@Ravens..(5-11)............................................27-24__(+3)
Steelers...(10-6)............................................34-13__(+21)
Jets.........(4-12).............................................20-10__(+10)
Dolphins....(1-15)............................................28-7__(+21)
@Giants....(10-6)............................................38-35__(+3)
PLAYOFFS
Jaguars.....(11-5)............................................31-20__(+11)___Div. Playoffs
Chargers...(11-5)............................................21-12__(+9)____Conf. Championship
Giants.......(10-6)...........................................14-17__(-3)_____Super Bowl

This is just to generate discussion amongst those of us in the WhoDat Nation. Obviously, it's not scientific... but it might help us see a few things.

Based on the above, anybody see something that makes the case for/against the Saints gittin 'er done?

:gosaints:

Our season looks so eerily similiar to what the Pats started out in 07. One demolition after another.

Then I see the 2 or 3 close games we will have to eek out (Pats, @Falcons, maybe the Cowboys depending on if they are for real or not).

4 games where there is enough talent to test us, assuming these teams are playing up to their potential, and vice-versa for the Saints:

MNF - Atlanta (even though I think home field will give us a doouble digit win here)

NE - Our toughest test talent wise, (IMHO) but we win with Home Field again.

Dallas - if they're playing like they did against Atlanta, but I like us once again with Home field.

Atl on the road - It depends on what Atlanta is playing for at the time.

I think we need to see our schedule to compare.

vs. Detroit - 45 - 27(+18)
at Philly - 48 - 22(+26)
at Buffalo - 27 - 7(+20)
vs. Jets - 24 - 10(+14)
vs. Giants - 48 - 27(+21)
at Miami - 46 - 34(+12)
vs. Atlanta
vs. Carolina
at St. Louis
at Tampa
vs. New England
at Washington
at Atlanta
vs. Dallas
vs. Tampa
at Carolina

The only tangible thing I can pull out of comparing the two schedules is, New England's division was slightly worse than ours is this year. Other than that, :idunno:

My take on it is...it really doesn't matter. The Saints could win all their games...There have been a lot of teams that thought they could too over the years....The fact is...it's tough to do so. I do think we will go 14-2. I would prefer to win out and win the SuperBowl but I don't know if a team can keep that kind of momentum going for the whole season....gotta have some lucky breaks.

There are six games the Saints have to look out for. (In Order)

1. Home against the Pats. - All the other games show people that the Saints should be counted as one of the top teams a win here proves it.

2. @ Falcons - A division game on the road and there is no love loss here.

3. @ Panthers - This is based on if Jake is not the QB and Moore is. Again it is a division game on the road and they have the RBs that could keep Brees on the bench for much of the game.

4. Home against the Falcons - The Falcons want to prove that they can win the division and after the last game against Dallas they need to also they belong in the playoff hunt.

5. Home against Dallas - This one is later because of how late in the season the game is and we all know what happens to Dallas late in the season. Dallas has a team that if they play up to the level of their talent they can play anyone. That being said it has been over a year and a half since I have seen Dallas play that way.

6. The Rams. That right I said the Rams. Why because no one would think it is possible and the game could sneak up on the Saints.

That being said the first two have about a 50% chance of beating the Saints the rest 25% or less the Rams <1%.

Here's the Colts schedule.....I think they have an easier one:

8 11/1 SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS 1:00 PM FOX
9 11/8 HOUSTON TEXANS 1:00 PM CBS
10 11/15 NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS 8:20 PM NBC
11 11/22 @ Baltimore Ravens 1:00 PM CBS
12 11/29 @ Houston Texans 1:00 PM CBS
13 12/6 TENNESSEE TITANS 1:00 PM CBS
14 12/13 DENVER BRONCOS 1:00 PM CBS
15 12/17 @ Jacksonville Jaguars 8:20 PM NFL Network
16 12/27 NEW YORK JETS 4:15 PM CBS
17 1/3 @ Buffalo Bills

So my fellow lads.....which is easier...playing in Atlanta, or playing in Baltimore? I could make an argument TODAY that playing in Atlanta will be harder to win than playing in Baltimore and win.....

The Colts play the Pats & Denver at home....we play the Pats & Dallas at home...here, the question is....how will Denver play in December??.....they have a murderous schedule for the rest of the season....Steelers, Giants @ Ravens @ Colts, @ Philly....they won't go undefeated!

So...what if.....both the Saints & Colts end up undefeated??.....wouldn't that be the Mother of all Super Bowls??

2007 Patriots never had to come back 24-3 at Miami. While you could look at this, as Miami whipped us in the first half. I prefer to look at confidence, and a never say die attitude. Looking at the Miami game, it may have been a good thing for our team to remember that if you turn the ball over you can lose a game, no matter how dominant your team is. The equivilent of losing a game but without the blemish on your record. If we get by the Patriots undefeated, then I'll start talking about it.. But an undefeated NFL season is one of the hardest things to do in team sports, and the odds are against us. After the 36-10 second half thrashing we put on the Dolphins, this team has showed me that there capable of just about anything as a team.

You would need a supercomputer to figure the odds of all of that happening, and the Saints and Colts ending up at 17-0. To many balls would have to bounce right to many times, I dont think that will ever happen, but if did

We don't have to start eating worms with our cheese & Kool Aid, do we?

Unlikely... yes it is. But discounting the odds, I say: Wow!

That would be totally, freaking, off-the-chain... AWESOME! :evilgrin:

Well, injuries play a big into this too. I like our chances to have a really great record this year. I'd agree 14-2 seems possible, probably 12-4 at a minimum assuming no devasting injuries or a complete meltdown. But, you know we will be tested even more at some point. Atlanta is a solid team and they will be desperate for a win Monday night. Carolina always seems to have our number, so they are an unknown (probably more of threat on the road and keep in mind last game of the season, so we could be resting starters). The Patriots will be another tough one and they won't get rattled if they get down early. I don't think Dallas would be a big threat, but they do have some talent and can play up to quality opponents.
