KALAMAZOO -- With stopwatches in their hands and team-logoed shirts on their backs -- Detroit Lions, New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals, San Francisco Giants -- scouts from roughly a dozen National Football League teams looked like customers milling around a new car lot at the Seelye Center on Tuesday.
They were in town to kick the tires on Western Michigan University's eligible seniors during the annual Pro Day, a mini-combine that gives the Broncos' outgoing seniors -- and some seniors-to-be -- a chance to prove their worth.
Scouts measured vertical leaps, counted how many times players could bench-press 225 pounds, and conducted speed and agility drills -- all in an effort to see if any of the 14 seniors are worthy of selection in April's NFL Draft or, at the very least, an invite to camp.
