Nintendo announces SNES Classic Edition

The SNES Classic Edition will feature 21 games from the legacy console, including "Super Mario World," "Super Mario Kart," "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" and the previously unreleased "Star Fox 2." It will hit shelves Sept. 29 with a price of $80.

Nostalgia!

Typical nintendo false scarcity hijinks will likely ensue.

I'm getting sick of their ****.

I already have a few of these games as ROM's on my PC. I get a bit of use out of that emulator. So, if it gets stupid, I'll just be using my computer to get my Nostalgia kick. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind getting one of these.

they are likely copying Disney's vault concept....

they will make an N64 next year and then put them on yearly rotation...

and all of the cool parents will pay top dollar for their child's happiness

Screw that, if I'm getting one, it's for me and my happiness.

But yes, I'm sure most parents will be the way you describe.

Listen, I don't think you can talk to me like that.

Welp... I already own most of those games and a super nintendo.

Sega Genesis/Super Nintendo was the last time anyone needed multiple 'current' gen consoles.

I was a Sega guy so I never owned the Super Nintendo.

I eventually had both. Genesis only had like 3-5 must own games.

I got in late with Phantasy Star, with the fourth game, but it was great.

Shining Force
Shining Force II

And I guess Sonic.

I think they had a Dune game that was pretty cool too. They were like the originators of having strategy based games, before PC dominated that.

I don't think this will make as big a splash as the NES Classic. I got a modded NES Classic included with all the SNES games I wanted. Since you can already preload all the SNES and Sega games you want on an NES Classic, many will continue to mod out their own consoles or pay extra for a modded console, rather than settle for 21 games.

Whatever you choose to do is definitely worth it though. It had been so long since I played Super Metroid that rediscovering the gameplay took me back to being a kid again.
