So much for drafting O-Linemaen (1 Viewer)

1st the police just wanted to talk with him, it was never reported that he was a suspect.

2nd, it is true, and we had 2 3rd round picks to use on him or call his bluff and draft him in the 5th. Same result for us as if he was a no show since Tull was cut.

3rd, they did not want to sign Lelito to start over him, are you insane? They wanted Lelito to be a backup so they could trade Leary, you know Collins backup, the guy everyone on this board has been praying we trade for.

1. Still doesn't look good if the police want to speak with you about a murder.

2. No team thought he was worth the risk on a 7th round pick, let alone a 3rd. The Tull comment is in hindsight, for the record. If we had drafted him in the 5th and he didn't sign, people would have blasted the FO for wasting that pick.

Landon Turner plays guard, if I'm not mistaken. A few people on the forum have mentioned him.

Is he a legit starting guard in the NFL? Having a guy in a uniform doesn't really fill the bill, does it? That's the real point here. They didn't go out and get a quality starter when they had the chance. Picking up a journeyman 3rd stringer a week before the season???? What good does that do???

I've said this. The criteria is this -- can the line protect Drew Brees? if so, mission accomplished. If not, the FO screwed the season. Anyone who wants to argue that will be arguing with a wall.

You can argue it, but you'll be debating yourself. If they can't protect Drew Brees, nothing else matters.

Here's the thing. Your caution is one choice out of two. They made that choice. The other choice was to investigate the situation and the guy as much as possible and pick him up if he checked out OR if you can't find enough information, sign the guy as an undrafted free agent. What do you have to lose at that point? League minimum??

Fact is, they didn't do the second option. You can say all you want that they made the right choice, but history will determine that. Not your opinion. If the Saints flush another season because they don't have a solid starting guard to protect Brees, and Collins has a solid year for the Cowboys, then obviously history will show that the Saints made the wrong choice.

This is not a matter of opinion any longer. It's just fact. Once it plays out this year, it will be fact. They either made the right choice or they didn't.

I will maintain that if we drafted Turner and Allen, instead of getting them as UDFAs, people would be saying how great we did at addressing the Oline. They would then complain about how we did not do enough to address the defense.

Anybody who says we did great at addressing the OLine when we can't protect Brees is living in a dreamworld. How can you consider the Saints' actions successful if they result in failure?

The Saints were not the ones that had the choice to make. Collins did and he chose the Cowboys. This is the real world not Madden. The Saints couldn't check a box on their computer screen and make Collins a Saint. Collins is a real, live person - not some player in a computer game.
