Here are our kickoff stats for the year (adjusted to remove onside kick stats):

Carney - KO: 51 - Avg. Length: 62.6 - Avg. Return: 20.5 - TB: 5
Weatherford - KO: 3 - Avg. Length: 52.7 - Avg Return: 24 - TB: 0
Cundiff - KO: 28 - Avg. Length 66.3 - Avg Return 25.5 - TB: 3
Berger (Last year) - KO: 52 - Avg. Length 64.7 - Avg Return: 24.6 - TB: 4

Kicks per TB - Average Starting Position

Carney - 1:10 - Own 28
Weatherford - 1:∞ - Own 41
Cundiff - 1:9 - Own 29
Berger - 1:13 - Own 30

What does this mean? Well, from the stats it seems that Carney kicks them short and high, allowing better coverage. Weatherford is not a kickoff option. Cundiff kicks them long and low, giving you the most opportunity for a touchback but the best opportunity for the other team to have a longer return if the kick is shorter than average. Berger seems to be pretty consistant with a longer, lower kick than Carney but higher than Cundiff. Is it worth using another roster spot on Cundiff? Well, the stats say no, but then again the stats don't always tell the whole story.

Amazing stat - in 1998 Mitch Berger averaged 70.3 yards per kickoff with 40 touchbacks. That means his average kick was into the end zone and he averaged 5 TBs every 2 games. If we could get a kicker like that....

Well, I hope we can do a lot of touchbacks on Sunday. If we can kick it out of the endzone, so much the better, punts included (preferably doing many more kickoffs).
