Someone needs to teach MW how to tackle (1 Viewer)

Well that's kind of the point. He didn't have to cut back, he believed in his own speed and/or thought Williams didn't have the angle. If Williams plays it hard, I've got no doubt he cuts back but because he was the only defender there I think you have to try to make that play. Better to try and fail than fail because you didn't try.
Anything is better than just letting him score. You have to attempt a tackle not an escort. Football 101

That's what I said. He did not anticipate the speed of Pollard or as you so elequently put it "brain farted" on the play.

I did not defend the play, just explained the thinking behind it.
The problem is as usual his thinking was wrong

I don’t see it that way. MW had to cover alot of ground and most RBs go hard straight away. Speed guys rarely cut back in the open field. Their confidence in their speed allows them to burn dudes regardless if a guy has a good angle or not. Either way, kudos to MW adding one more “wth” moment to his resume on National TV

Here’s a question… what does that play look like if that’s CJGJ in the same position?

There are people defending Marcus Williams. He’s excellent in coverage but he’s SOFT in run support. In the 4 and a half years he’s been here, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten excited about a hit he put in someone.

There are times you can literally see him doing in math in his head trying to figure out how to approach a ball carrier so he can bring him down in the least physical way possible.

If you want to scapegoat anyone, scapegoat the first one who missed the tackle
So, it is OK for him to blow the remaining 40-50 yards due to his lack of tackling instincts?

I think if we pay CJGJ he's replacing Jenkins (who also gets shook once a game at this point but he's a vet, I can accept it) unless we draft a SS that can keep him in his kind of defensive joker role. I don't see him ever playing FS full time.

At this point there’s little hope of teaching him to tackle.

And he‘ll forever be remembered for this play today, oh and that mighty whif against the Vikes!

Only the Saints get called holding run plays
I don't know about that but I'm certain we're the only team in the league that gets called for blindside block on a blitz pickup, ever, in history.

I wasn't suggesting that CJGC replace Marcus Williams at FS (hopefully we can keep him in his current roll). The point was if he finds him self in the same situation as MW was last night, I don't think CJGJ runs along side the ball carrier for 25 yards and then lets him score without giving himself a chance to make a play.

Yea I agree with that.

It was like what ya waiting for Marcus. Very strange play he didn't attack pollard until it was way to late. Almost like he had no idea where the end zone was. Ugly. Wasn't he the one who made a great tackle two yards short of the first to force a punt in the 4th quarter. That tackle was very well done.
