Soooo, I kinda got a Jeep,,,,,,,,,,,,, or two. (1 Viewer)

Looks perfect for you to drive down to Canon City and take it for a spin, or 3, on Skyline Drive. Let that whet your appetite and travel to Telluride to drive the Imogene Pass over the mountains to Ouray. Real Jeep owners would definitely do that. :)

We're thinking of doing Black Bear Pass, also near Telluride, at some point. Probably next summer. Ouray is also on our radar.

This weekend, we're going back to Argentine Pass near Georgetown. We didn't get all the way through it last time and I want to get to the summit. We're going to leave earlier this Saturday.

One more thing, I decided to buy a Smittybilt winch. I just need to get a new front bumper first.

Looks great except you chose cowboy blue and falcons red. :)

Seems like a big change for you versus the Jag SUV you had. How was that transition?

It wasn't that big of a deal. The biggest change is that I'm driving slower. The ride in the Jag was actually more jarring than the Wrangler. The lack of Apple Carplay was a big turnoff on the Jag as well. I do miss carving up mountain roads but even then my speed was limited by other folks so there's that. If anything, I regret getting rid of my Porsche Cayenne before moving to Colorado. One other thing, when the top is off the Jeep, I actually want to drive slower through the mountains. Such a beautiful site..

As for the colors, I'd go black and gold except I've never liked those colors. Blue has always been my favorite.

My son starts kindergarten tomorrow so last weekend we decided to take a trip to western Colorado where we rented a Yurt through AirBnB. It ended up being a DAMN GOOD choice. The campsite was great, the view was amazing no matter where you looked. It was just great time all around. We also explored Colorado Monument park. The only downside were the clouds that rolled in at night and prevented us from watching the meteor shower.

This is me shortly after I bought my '06 LJ in 2015. Note that it's almost entirely stock. The tube doors were awesome for off-road because I had more visibility, and could hang out the opening to see exactly where I was putting my front driver tire.

Man, tube doors are something I want to get but will probably be skipping. Because of my son's autism, I need to have child locks. Every once in a while I spot him trying to open the back door. I'd love to take my Jeep totally naked as well but again, that's a no go with my son.

As much as I wanted to go back to driving a Jeep, I ended up going with a Mazda CX-5 since I wasn't going to be doing any off-roading or anything like that. I'm totally happy with my new ride but still have mad love for Jeeps and would love to get one as a second vehicle in a few years.

Technically, only the front doors being tube doors is of any benefit off road - but there's no telling how he would respond to being in a vehicle that isn't totally enclosed. Might love it, might drive him insane. My kids practically jump out at every chance they get when we're on the trail. Kind of frustrating.

And they make netting for the rear + cargo area. Designed for dogs, but ... I kid, I kid!

Is your son into rocks, plants, or nature in general?

He doesn't complain when the top is off and only wants the windows up when it gets cold. So he's pretty much neurotypical in that regard.

As for the cargo net, well I want one for our lab but the good ones by DirtyDog only go behind the front row seats. They don't make one to go behind the back seats. Which is really weird IMO.

Anyways, this weekend we went up to Kingston Peak. An 8mile long trail that is classed as "easy" but easy means 1foot tall rocks. Anyways, it yielded some spectacular views.

Question for you guys driving the 4 door wranglers. Which transmission would you recommend? I'm perfectly happy driving manual. I remember back in n the day, the automatic was junk and no one bought it. I'm seriously considering trading in my truck for a 4 door Wrangler or a 4runner.

If you’re talking the new Wrangler, then the 8sp auto is a no brainer to me. Ther 1st and 2nd gears are much taller than those on the 6spd manual. You can run 35s without any need to upgrade the differential gears. It also has much better accelleration than the 6spd.

On the older, JK wranglers, the 6spd manual is still king.
