Spencer Rattler is at Saints facility early for voluntary workouts post-Carr injury news (5 Viewers)

This idiotic lack of decision making by DA is one of the worst mistakes a HC can make with a young rookie QB.
The starting QB get all of the practice reps on all levels of football from Pop Warner upwards...
It is to get you ready for this weeks game! Practice reps are for installing this weeks game plan, plays, player sets, etc...
It speaks volumes to how well Rattler handled this horrible situation!
It shows how good of a QB Rattler can become...

I said this last year I think Rattler outplayed Haener in 2 of 3 preseasons games and should have been named the backup. But DA didn’t have the testicular fortitude to name a backup.

There is a lot being made of who was #2 and who was #3 QB but I don’t think it really mattered. Rattler was better serving the team as the scout QB for the defense and Haener was game day backup. But we’ve seen it before where the team didn’t start the game day backup when the starter went down before. I believe Taysom came in to start from 3rd string before as well because he was serving a different role until the starter got injured. It’s entirely probable that the other players could see the difference in practice between the two players and would have had a problem not starting the stronger of the two.

You completely missed the fact that DA was still rotating practice snaps after Rattler was starting games...

A 2nd year QB or a rookie QB need ever practice snap that he can possible get in order to slow the game down in their head.

It was a horrible coaching decision for DA to do this to Haener & Rattler...

I haven’t seen where they were rotating practice snaps after the season started. My understanding is that Rattler went to the scout team and Haener was gameday backup and both prepared as such until Carr got hurt.

But he's not. He ranks 5th in winning percentage in New Orleans Saints history, counting all coaches, including interim. He ranks just below Haslet. The Saints have had some truly crappy coaches in their history.
But he IS. Go look up his winning percentage. It’s truly one of the lowest of all time.

I had no problem with a plan for Rattler to be the number 3 similar to how the Packers handled Jordan Love. Haener could play the role of Tim Boyle. But once you make that decision, you have to stick with it.

I would have been fine giving Rattler at redshirt year and maybe that would have been better for him, but I do think we at least saw that the game is not too big for him and that he has the physical tools to succeed, which is nice to know going into the draft this year with Carr hurt. It's now up to Rattler to see if he can improve enough to win the starting job, but at least we know the baseline level of QB play we have and can see if we think there is someone better in the draft. Otherwise, we'd have a complete unknown in Rattler so it would make the evaluation much harder.

I thought I heard or read that they were sharing practice snaps, but I could be wrong.

The only reason I can think for having Haener as the game day backup is because he was more like Carr, but I just never saw that Haener was more similar to Carr than Rattler was.

No no no I’m not going off of record. I mean he’s one of the worst head coaches of all time. Hes that bad of a head coach.

A terrible coaching decision by DA...

So awful, thanks for posting that. I wonder how many other positions he was doing that with?
QB has to be the worst position in any sport to do such a lame-brained decision like this...

It speaks highly to Rattler's ability to be a starting NFL QB that he was able to overcome such bad shortcomings in his HC in his rookie year!
