The Jets' "Ground and Pound" rushing attack has looked more like "Grounded and Impounded" the last two weeks, but they're hoping a new approach will eventually lead to a big-time payoff.

Even though the Jets had one of the NFL's most productive running games last season, their coaches conducted a study in the offseason, looking for a formula that would help maximize the talents of Thomas Jones and Leon Washington. Specifically, they analyzed the Giants and Panthers, run-oriented teams that succeeded with more than one back.

Based on their findings, the Jets tweaked their philosophy, which explains a few early trends - how they're splitting the carries between Jones and Washington, when they're using them and where they're running them.
