Huh. One scout thinks Christian Hackenberg's failings were due to his new head coach and not so much Hackenberg himself.

I distinctly remember him being looked at as a candidate for first QB taken once upon a time.

I think the Texans will grab him in the 2nd. He was Obriens QB at Penn St. and would be a great fit in Houstons offense. If anybody knows his potential it's his former coach. I don't like Hackenberg much but he had one of the worst Olines in football with very little talent at the skill positions. I have a very good feeling the Texans will take him with little risk in the 2nd. He has star potential and basically did everything on his own. He will instantly know a good portion of the playbook along with the verbage. Really good fit IMO.

From the article posted by Dan:

Sources with a team picking in the top 10 say that the top four players on their draft board would be Ole Miss left tackle Laremy Tunsil, UCLA linebacker Myles Jack, Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith, and Florida State cornerback/safety Jalen Ramsey. That is how their board would stack up if Jack and Smith didn't suffer their knee tears. Obviously, this team loves Ramsey. There have been multiple other teams that have told WalterFootball.com that they have a second-round grade on Ramsey. Thus, there is a huge debate on the Seminole product. Across the board, there is nothing but consensus love for Tunsil, Jack, and Smith.

The more that I read, the less encouraged I am that either of Jack and/or Smith will be available at the time we pick. Both are perfect for what we need. Even with the injuries it seems that they will drafted early.

I find the Jalen Ramsey tidbit fascinating. One team thinks of him as a top five player, and another has him rated as a second rounder. I'd love to peek into both scouting departments and see what metrics they use and how they filter the scouting reports to formulate their eventual draft boards. And how much of the off the record comments are actually plausible. It truly is still an art rather than a science.

The more you read or hear right now the less you can actually trust it. This is Misinformation Time in the NFL. Everyone is lying their ***** off about where they rank players on their boards to drive up/down the stock of certain players.

I wouldn't believe anything you/I read or hear to be true.

I imagine it would be like the Saints having a second round grade on Jameis Winston last year. No way would we consider him in the first since we've got Drew, but we couldn't pass up the value of the pick if he fell to the second.

I imagine that's how two teams' grades can be so vastly different. Otherwise, someone's scouts are morons and the others are geniuses.
