I was watching the gallery on making the Mandalorian. After listening to Dave Filoni and Favreau talk Star Wars, I just feel a loss of what could have been.
I didn't hate the sequels (and I really disliked the prequels)... but they were such a wasted opportunity.
We discussed a lot of this in The Mandalorian thread. Filoni just 'gets it' on a completely different level.I was watching the gallery on making the Mandalorian.
At the end of the 2nd or 3rd episode, it ends with Filoni talking about why the Darth maul fight was so critical to the franchise story and how it leads to Anakin saving Luke by being the father he never had.
The depth and specifics he was discussing had the entire table silent and in awe. You can see this wonderful warm smile on Favreau's face. I am reading his thoughts (likely wrong) as a combination of "I so nailed this hiring" and "he's the guy for the next project".
The stuff he was mentioning about Qui Gon Jinn... being ahead of the idea of attachment not necessarily being a bad thing. The importance of all life.
I knew it was somewhere, I just couldn't remember which one.We discussed a lot of this in The Mandalorian thread. Filoni just 'gets it' on a completely different level.
I guess it's nice to be from a perfect family.sw is ultimately about families?
other than ewoks, the characters of sw are about as afamilial as one could imagine. everybody's a loner, a crook, an orphan or a pariah
the "gets it" guy is whack
I had a thread about the fact that I never watched anything beyond what is now "A New Hope" when I was a child. Oddly enough when I picked up Disney in like January and starting watching the whole thing in order, I didn't even know that this one was on at the movies. So when I finished watching all of them I went to the movies on my off day and watched it. I just re-watched it again and I honestly liked it. I watched everything that Disney had and I can say that the only things in the series worth watching again are 7,8,9 Mandolorian series and Rogue One. And the first one I guess because it was fresh at the time but I'm probably never watching it again. From the standpoint of someone who didn't catch the rest when "you had to be there" the rest of them as well as the Solo stand alone are pretty pitiful.

7, 8, 9? Were you high when you watched those? 7 is bearable despite being an obvious rehash/ripoff of the original film, but 8 and 9 make the Prequels seem like masterpieces - and the prequels are terrible. I think episodes 2, 8, and 9 are so bad they are unbearable to watch. My daughter got nearly halfway through 9 before she said she couldn't take any more, declaring that "unbelievably" it was even worse than episode 8.
