There's a history here. Remember the last game of the season, when Matt Ryan was only x yards away from 5,000, and the coaches kept him in so he could try to get it? And failed :hihi:

I mean, to only run the ball 5 times, when your running game is demolishing the Pats' D... It's just insane! And then to throw the ball on the 20 with the game in hand. All you need is a FG and to run the clock!!! And they're throwing the ball :covri:

Sounds like they were stat chasing, and it came back to bite them in the biggest way possible.

Thank you Dan Quinn and Kyle Shanahan :worthy:

They had been aggressive all season, they were just sticking with what got them there. I don't understand it at all myself, like watching Favre in the NFC championship game.

There's no way they were just being aggressive against us at the end of the regular season against us. They were stat chasing, trying to get Matt Ryan his 5,000 yards.

And there's no way you can compare this game vs the Vikings game. They had the ball on the 20, with only a few minutes left. They could have been up 11 with little time on the clock if they just ran the ball... Even if they didn't get any yards, they still would have had a chip shot for one of the best kickers in the league!

Minnesota had a bad penalty out of the huddle that moved them out of FG range. They were trying to get that yardage back, and Favre made a bad decision. The coach made the right call, but the execution was off. For the Falcons, Quinn/Shanahan made the wrong call, AND the execution was off. The 2 situations are completely different.

I think there's no other way to look at it, other than the Falcons were trying to run up the score and add passing yards to Matt Ryan's resume. Nearly the entire second half, they only had 5 rushing attempts! That's inexplicable. Especially since they were dominating on the ground.
