Before just about every hockey rink had a Zamboni, the custom was that the losing team had to treat the ice after the game - they would hose it down and smooth it. Hence, they were "hosers" . . . the losers.









*So apparently there are different views on this but this one makes the most sense to me in the McKenzie context
